The week is flying by!
So far the students have developed a programme idea, filmed a load of raw footage for their programme promo, and edited that footage down in a finished version ready to support their pitch.
Despite a few technical hitches with the kit in the edit suites today, they managed to get everything done – thanks in no small part to the crack team that had assembled at talkbackThames’s Amersham office to help them through the editing process.
Emmanuel’s update on the day from the young people’s perspective is now up on the student blog, along with a bunch of photos of the two guys in action.
What will tomorrow bring? Another big challenge and, hopefully, beautifully constructed pitches that are ready to face the panel on Friday!
The students will be with Lisa Pickup in the morning to develop their presentation skills, and she’ll be joined by Peter Cassidy in the afternoon for the low-down on
how to pitch to a broadcaster + some practical help getting their own pitches together.
Onwards and upwards towards the climactic final day!

Day 2 was all about camera work.
The young
participants went up to talkbackThames’s Amersham office, and worked with an unbelievable team.
The aim of the day was to film all the raw material they would need for their promo. They started off by finalising their programme ideas (we tried to cram too much into yesterday, so they were a bit behind).
Next they got a crash course in camera skills, had a quick lunch, and then cracked on with the filming.
I’m a bit light on details at the moment, since we haven’t yet got the photos back (a pro was there today; ironically pro photographers take longer than amateurs to sort through their photos!) and nor do we have the feedback forms.
But there’s a new post by Emmanuel up on the student blog, and a video of some of the guys too.
Just one more thing… The guy who ran the show today has the best name in TV: Titus Ogilvy!

Alongside the six main participants in Me In TV, there’s a young man named Emmanuel who’s working on the project as the Content Producer.
Emmanuel is a film graduate and he’s keen to
learn as much as he can during the week.
He’s got a special role – filming the important moments, taking pictures, interviewing everyone involved, and generally gathering as much good content as possible for the student blog.
We asked Emmanuel to record a little video on day 1
to introduce himself – click here to see it on the student blog.

Day 1 was all about development. And it was a whirlwind!
Julie Donovan and Tracy-Jean spent the day with the students talking about the ways in which FremantleMedia develops new ideas, generating stacks of ideas and passing on all manner of handy tips.
It was pretty intense all round – everyone seemed pretty bushed by the end.
But by the time they signed off for day 1, the two teams were pretty much done with the preparations for filming
their promos
tomorrow – maybe an hour or so of finishing off to be done.
Plenty of lessons learned: there was probably too much scheduled for the first day (my fault!), but all the feedback was great and we
definitely got off to a good start.
There are stacks of updates, photos and videos over on the student blog – check it.
Tomorrow: camera work!

We’ll be posting a whole load of materials generated by the young people
participating in Me In TV on the student blog.
There’s a link in the main menu above, and if you click it it’ll take you to a rather stylish Tumblr site.
They’ve been doing some preparatory work so
that they can hit the ground running tomorrow – we’ll write more about the three assignments they’ve been doing soon, but you can already see the results of the first two on the student blog.
Emmanuel, the multimedia producer on this project, will be running the student blog – more on his role coming soon too.

Me In TV starts on Monday.
Throughout the next few days and
all through the Me In TV week itself, we’ll be posting updates on Twitter, Facebook, here on the project blog, and over on the student blog.
We’re going to produce as much interesting material to record the project as possible – not just text, but loads of photos, videos, interviews, excerpts from the stuff the students are creating, and whatever else we can think of that might be cool to share.
It’ll be great to get people’s responses to the project while it’s in progress – we might even be able to create a nice feedback loop between participants and observers.
If there’s anything in particular you’d like to see, let us know.
There are several ways to get updates from the project as it progresses:
Follow us on Twitter – @meintvproject
Like the Facebook page – Me In TV on Facebook
RSS feed from the project blog – http://www.meintv.org/feed/
RSS feed from the student blog – http://meintvstudents.tumblr.com/rss
Cheers!

I’ve started putting up the pictures and profiles of everyone involved on the Who’s involved? page – check it out.
There are still a handful of people to add, but they should all be on there by the end of the weekend.
I’m
absolutely delighted to have seven great participants and eight fantastic tutors, all of whom have amazing track records
and whom I think will do a cracking job next week.
If you want to follow the project’s progress, you can follow us on Twitter, connect on Facebook, or grab the RSS feed.

Here’s a short document
summarising the project. I’ve been sending this
around to the people I’ve been trying to recruit.
I thought it might be of interest to anyone thinking about doing something similar.
If you have any questions or want a .pdf copy, message me through the contact page.

Not those dates
Me In TV will take place in
the week commencing Monday 7 November.
All the key people, and the young people from Community Links, can make it that week. That leaves us 7 weeks, which should be plenty of time.
Next on the list: working with the key people at Fremantle/talkbackThames
on the content and structure of the days they’ll be running.
It’s Friday night now, though, so that’s a task for next week!

Here’s the artwork for Me In TV. I think you’ll agree that it looks pretty spectacular. A thousand thank-yous to Steve McInerney for
creating these three versions of the logo.
1. Horizontal
2. Vertical
3. Retro testcard!
